Community Guidelines

Last updated:

Rooffur is built around a simple idea: pet people helping pet people. The community should be a place where Pet Parents and pet lovers can ask for help, share experiences, meet others and form care relationships based on trust and mutual respect.

Members should treat each other respectfully. Disagreement is acceptable, and either a Pet Parent or Host may decide that an arrangement is not right for them. However, harassment, threats, bullying, stalking, discrimination, intimidation or abusive behaviour are not acceptable. If someone tells you they do not wish to continue a conversation, respect that decision.

Animal welfare must always come first. Members must not encourage or participate in animal cruelty, neglect, abuse, unsafe restraint, abandonment, animal fighting or any other behaviour that unnecessarily places an animal at risk. If an animal appears to be in immediate danger, members should contact the appropriate veterinary service, animal welfare organisation, police or other competent authority rather than relying solely on Rooffur.

Pet Parents are expected to be honest about their pets. Information that could materially affect a Host's decision should not be deliberately concealed. This includes known aggression, biting history, escape behaviour, serious anxiety, medical conditions, medication requirements, allergies, compatibility with other animals and any other significant behavioural or care requirement.

Hosts must also provide honest information about themselves and the environment in which the pet would be cared for. Hosts should not misrepresent their experience, availability, household, other animals, living arrangements or ability to provide the agreed level of care. A Host should never accept an animal they do not feel capable of caring for safely.

Rooffur strongly encourages members to arrange a Meet & Greet before entering into a care arrangement. Pet Parents should meet potential Hosts, and Hosts should meet the pet they may be caring for. Both sides should use the meeting to ask questions, discuss expectations and decide whether they are comfortable proceeding. No member should pressure another person to agree to an arrangement.

Users should respect each other's privacy. Do not publicly post another person's full address, government identification documents, banking information, phone number, passwords, OTPs, private medical information or other sensitive personal details without permission. Only share information that is genuinely necessary.

Being part of a Rooffur WhatsApp community does not give a member unlimited permission to contact other participants privately. Members must not repeatedly message someone who has not responded, continue contacting someone after being asked to stop, send inappropriate sexual or romantic messages, add people to unrelated groups without consent or use community contact information for unsolicited commercial marketing.

Scams and deceptive behaviour are prohibited. Members should never ask others to provide passwords, OTPs, banking credentials or payment-card information. Users should exercise caution before sending advance payments to people they have not met or independently assessed. Rooffur currently does not process or guarantee payments between Pet Parents and Hosts.

Hosting through Rooffur may be free or paid. A Host may choose to care for a pet because they enjoy spending time with animals or may agree on a price with a Pet Parent. Any price should be communicated clearly before the care arrangement begins. Rooffur currently takes no commission and does not process payments between members.

The Rooffur care community must not be used as a marketplace for selling animals or promoting irresponsible breeding. Members should not advertise animals for commercial sale, illegal breeding services, animal trafficking or other activity that violates animal welfare or applicable law. Adoption-related activity may be introduced separately by Rooffur in the future under specific rules.

Unrelated advertising and spam are not allowed. Genuine recommendations that are relevant to pet owners may be useful to the community, but repetitive advertisements, referral spam, unrelated commercial promotions and mass unsolicited messages may be removed.

Community content should remain appropriate. Members must not post hateful content, explicit sexual material, threats, illegal content, deliberately harmful misinformation or graphic material intended simply to shock others. Where an image of an injured animal is genuinely necessary to seek help, members should use appropriate discretion and warnings.

Users must not impersonate another person, falsely claim to represent Rooffur, misrepresent themselves as a veterinarian or professional caregiver, or falsely claim qualifications or certifications they do not hold.

When a serious disagreement occurs, users are encouraged to document what happened and report the issue privately to Rooffur rather than publishing another person's personal information or encouraging public harassment. Rooffur may review reports and may remove content, issue warnings, restrict participation or remove users where appropriate.

Participation in the Rooffur community is a privilege rather than an entitlement. Rooffur may remove members who repeatedly violate these Guidelines or whose behaviour creates a meaningful safety risk to people, pets or the wider community.

Above all, members should remember the principle behind Rooffur:

Talk first. Meet first. Decide together.

Rooffur makes the introduction. Pet Parents and Hosts decide who they trust and remain responsible for the care arrangements they choose to enter into.
